3 Great Reasons to Visit China

Thousands of people choose to head off on one of the many available china holidays every year, but what is it that makes this country so attractive. This article takes a look at a selection of the 'must visit' destinations in this fantastic country, to give you an idea of what's on offer.

Beijing

The capital city of the People's Republic of China makes for a great place to experience the very heart of Chinese culture. Beijing represents the centre of the nation's politics and culture roots and is home to some of the countries most important historical locations. As one of the six ancient capital cities in Chinese history it has a long past, with sites like the Forbidden City, Great Wall and Temple of Heaven being testament to this. The city is also firmly routed in the present with Tiananmen Square being the one of the most iconic locations of the past 50 years.

Shanghai

Unlike Beijing, Shanghai is representative of a more modern china. Located on the central-eastern Chinese coast, looking out over the East China Sea, Shanghai is one of the largest metropolitan areas in China. The city itself is divided into two sections, Pudong and Puxi, either side of the Huangpu River. Puxi on the west is formed of the older parts of Shanghai, with more traditional buildings, while Pudong on the east is the new development zone and is filled with glass skyscrapers and bright lights. Top attractions in Shanghai include the Bund, Shanghai Jade Buddha Temple, Shanghai Oriental Pearl TV Tower and the Shanghai Yuyuan Garden.

Yangtze River

If you're after a more natural wonder, then you can't go wrong with a Yangtze River cruise. This impressive river carves it's way through mountain ranges, creating sheer gorges and spectacular views. The river runs more than 3,900 miles from west to east, entering the see near Shanghai, making it the third largest in the world. A cruise on the river is a great way to get a feel for China as a whole. There are many excursions and sights you can e! njoy whe n on a Yangtze River cruise, with the highlights including: the Three Gorges, Chongqing City, Fengdu, Baoshizha, Wanxian and Shennong Streem.
